Thermocouple Wire - Conductor Options
The more common conductors for medical thermocouple use are:
| Type | Positive Lead | Negative Lead | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| T | Copper (Cu) | Copper-Nickel (CuNi44) | Good in moist environments, low temperature and cryogenic applications; highest accuracy, lowest strength |
| E | Nickel-Chromium (NiCr10) | Copper-Nickel (CuNi44) | Largest EMF µV/°C, greater strength than Type T but better accuracy than Type J and Type K |
| K | Nickel-Chromium (NiCr10) | Nickel-Aluminum-Silicon (NiMn2Al2Si) (magnetic) | Largest temperature range, greatest strength at expense of accuracy |
| J | Iron (Fe) (magnetic) | Copper-Nickel (CuNi44) | Not suited for low temperature applications |
